Chief of Police

Town of Salisbury

The Town of Salisbury (population approximately 1,300), located in central New Hampshire, seeks a part-time Chief (less than 35 hours per week) to manage their Police Department, which in the past consisted of one part time Chief and one part-time officer, with an operating budget of just under $60,000. The Chief reports directly to a 3-member Board of Selectmen and is responsible for the daily operations of the Department and the preparation and management of the Department's budget.The Chief performs regular law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigations, prosecutions, traffic control and responding to calls for service. Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field, with 6 years of progressively responsible police experience and 3 years at a supervisory level, ability to meet the physical requirements of the Department, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Candidates must possess, or have the ability to readily obtain, NH police officer certification as well as a NH driver’s license. The Chief is required to live within a reasonable radius of the station house. Salary $18 to $20 per hour, depending on certification. The selected candidate must successfully complete pre-employment requirements, including a psychological and polygraph test, criminal background, credit and reference check.
